Newsletter 2010: ELECTRICAL SAFETY INFORMATION by Roger C. Mendaros

1. Turning "ON" a breaker under abnormal condition could explode and possibly blind you! (One serious accident happened in Oceanside in 2002). Call a licensed holder to fix the problem for you.

2. Replacing a breaker with improper AIC could cause an explosion (COPPER/BUSSMAN safety video).

3. GFCI protect users from electric shock. Required in kitchen, bathroom, garage, pool, spa, etc.

4. AFCI Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter is an electronic intelligence device. Required in bedrooms.

5. Beware of Non-Electrician or Jack of all trade experts that provide opinion/advice or work on electrical project. Mistakes are expensive. Ask a licensed electrician. Would you deal with anyone to fix a gas leak in your home? Trained GAS professionals use proper instruments to deliver safe work for you.

6. Non-polarized/reversed connected wires in outlets or GFCI is very dangerous.

7. Troubleshooting and voltage testing is accounted for 24% of very serious non-fatal cases. Shock could cause the heart to malfunction. Licensed electrician can safely handle the job for you.

8. We use HI-TECH instruments in our job. Our Outlet Load Tester/analyzer simultaneously evaluate voltage drop, current, and resistance in live circuits, etc., our INSPECTOR-11, MEGGER, Signal Tracer, Dangerous frequency EMF tester, to name a few. We diagnose electrical problems properly.

9. In just milliseconds similar to lightning, a voltage surge, thousands of volts can destroy home's valuable equipment. Simple cheap V-surge protector cannot filter all energy surges. Ask us.

10. CALIFORNIA breaking news: CSLB announces stings and large fines to owners/workers for non-permitted building/structural work. Check with the local Building & Safety Office for information. Mr. Electrician Company will perform electrical work only. We will not stray beyond the defined boundaries of our profession. Access holes, patching work, stucco works or trench work are separate for other trades to do. Cost of our estimate may change if work is not confirmed within three days. We don't entertain comparison service fees with handymen. We are trained professionals using proper instruments in our trade for your safety. We will accept the work only under the above guidelines.

N.C. TIMES 02/2000. I'VE READ IN YOUR COLUMN THAT ONLY LICENSED ELECTRICIANS SHOULD PERFORM ELECTRICAL REPAIRS. Now that I am selling my home, I've hired a handyman to make all types of repairs for the buyers including electrical work. I know that my handyman is competent to make these repairs, and I'd like to know why you disagree. Answer; There are most likely some knowledgeable handymen, fully capable of performing some routine electrical repairs. However, to allege that a general repairman possesses adequate expertise in the highly complex field of electrical wiring is to demean the multifarious intricacies of that profession. Suffice it to say that the apprenticeship for an electrician consists of a five years program. As a seller, you also need to think about the liability. If any electrical problems should arise after the sale of your home, and if it can be shown that you contracted electrical repairs to someone other than a licensed electrician, the legal repercussion could enhance the income of at least two lawyers. My advice is to stick with the experts wherever safety-related repair work is needed. Barry Stone, Certified Building Inspector.

Company services include electrical troubleshooting & wiring of Commercial/Industrial buildings/RV parks, Multi-unit apartments, & Residential. Our continuing education with MIKE HOLT'S Trade & Safety issue keeps us informed to better serve everyone. Note: New California State regulation requires a Journeyman or Helper electricians to have 8000 hours of curriculum and job experience, pass the State exam, and get certified. The High Standard State Board requirement separates these trained professionals from other non-certified electricians or handymen in the industry today.

NOTE: New State regulation requires a journeyman electrician to have 8000 hours of curriculum & job experience, pass the State certification exam and be re-certified every three years. Contractor's operational help cost a little more today.
